Travel Expenses

If you are receiving travel expenses, on arrival you will be issued with a claim form to be completed and returned with copies of any receipts or tickets. We will do our best to reimburse participants before their departure. Reimbursement is usually made in the form of a GBP cheque. Please indicate if you would prefer the cheque to be in your home currency when you hand your claim form in.

Cashing your cheque - GBP cheques only can be cashed at the University's bank in Cambridge. Other currency cheques should be taken to the bank you hold an account.

Newton Institute

The Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences was opened in July 1992. The Isaac Newton Institute is now firmly established as the UK's national research institute for mathematics.

Audio Visual Aids

Computer Facilities: In the Institute Library there are a number of Windows PCs for use by conference participants. Their use is restricted to information searching and retrieval using email, online journals and databases. The SSH client putty allows access to remote unix hosts. It is also possible to search the library catalogues via the University Library WWW page. On arrival each participant will be issued with a guest account valid for the period of the conference to enable access to these machines. Please note: The library computers are not workstations for the preparation of papers or the completion of work.

Wireless Network: If you wish to use the Institute's wireless network, please obtain a network ticket pass from the Conference Desk. This facility will enable you to browse the internet via your own laptop whilst you are visiting the Institute

Offices: The Institute has very limited office spaces which are allocated to longer term visitors. It is not generally possible to allocate an office to a participant who has been invited to attend during a conference.

Public Telephone:The nearest credit card phone is located in Wolfson Court as the Institute does not have a public telephone.

Poster Boards (if applicable): The Institute has boards which can be used to display posters. The size of the boards are: 3ft 10" High by 2ft 11" Wide (1170mm x 890mm). Please check your invitation letter to determine if your request to present a poster has been accepted.

Please note: Not all conferences hold poster sessions.

Opening Times: The Institute is open and staffed from 08:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday. The Institute Library is staffed 09:15 - 14:45 Monday to Friday.


Murray Edwards College

Murray Edwards College was founded in 1954 as the "third foundation" for women students at Cambridge University at a time when Cambridge had the lowest proportion of women undergraduates of any university in the UK. Up to that time there were only two colleges that could accept women, Girton and Newnham, both founded in the late nineteenth century. Formally known as New Hall.

Bedrooms: All en suite bedrooms are decorated to a high standard & offer good working areas for study. Every room has tea/coffee making facilities & a telephone with fax/modem point. All bedrooms are serviced daily during your stay, except Sunday.

Internet Access: Internet access is possible via the pay as you go system. Connection is via the socket located in the bedroom. Leads can be rented from the Porters Lodge. A credit card is required to use this service.

Telephone: Telephone cards are £5.00 each, and may be purchased from the Porters Lodge. Information on how to use the card with the telephone in your room will be found on the back of the card.

Porters' Lodge: A porter is on duty daily from 6:00am until midnight. After midnight the Night Porter can be contacted by dialling 762235 (emergencies only).

Vacating your room: On departure it is essential that you vacate your room by 9:00am and return your key to the Porters' Lodge. A charge will be made for keys not returned. A room will be made available for the storage of luggage, if necessary. Additional nights should be booked via the Programme and Visitor Officer.

Smoking: Smoking is not permitted in Murray Edwards College.

Bar with Sky TV: The Bar is situated in the lower part of the JCR. Opening times vary and your conference organiser will be able to tell you the arrangements made for your conference. The JCR also has vending machines for soft drinks & snacks. There is a hot drinks machine in the main college walkway, drinks sachets may be purchased from the Porters' Lodge. Smoking is permitted in the JCR bar only.

Sports Facilities: Murray Edwards College has an excellent gym, which you may use for a small fee. Please see the Porters for further information. The squash court and tennis courts may also be booked through the Porters' lodge. Please ensure you bring with you your own racquets, balls, etc.

Meals

Meals can be purchased via the cafeteria at Wolfson Court after purchasing a dining card from the Porters Lodge.
