Solution of Partial Differential Equations on the Sphere (PDEs on the sphere)

24th September 2012 to 28th September 2012

Workshop Organisers: Dr H Weller (Chair) (Reading), Dr D Ham (Imperial College London), Dr T Ringler (Los Alamos)Dr M Piggott (Imperial College London), Dr N Wood (Met Office) and Dr Matthias Läuter (Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum für Informationstechnik Berlin)

Organising Committee Members: Prof S Reich (Universität Potsdam), Prof D Williamson (The National Center for Atmospheric Research)Dr B Wingate (Los Alamos National Laboratory), and Dr J Behrens (Universität Hamburg).

Workshop Theme

The PDEs on the sphere workshop is about numerical solution techniques on modern and emerging computer architectures of the partial differential equations that govern weather, climate and ocean circulation.

Particular topic of interest include:

  1. All aspects of dynamical core formulation
  2. Coupling between equations and with sub-grid scale parametrisations
  3. Parallel scaling
  4. Test cases
  5. Equation sets
