Essential coronavirus update for INI activities

Following the announcement from the Vice Chancellor of the University's response to the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Isaac Newton Institute temporarily closed its doors on Friday 20 March.  All staff will be working remotely until further notice.

Please note that some pre-scheduled automated emails (including for instance request for confirmation of attendance at workshops that have been cancelled) are still being generated.  We apologise in advance if you receive such an email and ask you to ignore it.

In memory of Sir Christopher Dobson (1949-2019)

The Institute was greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Christopher Dobson, Master of St John’s College, Cambridge on 8 September 2019.  A brilliant scientist and a kind and compassionate human being, his contribution to Alzheimers research was significant.

Joint INI-ICMS-KTN report published highlighting the mathematical science opportunities in the Industrial Strategy

In February 2019,  a workshop took place to analyse and explore the various aspects of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF). This was organised by INI, the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS),  Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and an organising committee representing the breadth of the mathematical sciences. The event took place at ICMS in Edinburgh, related to one of 26 recommendations made by Professor Philip Bond in his 2018 Review of Knowledge Exchange in the Mathematical Sciences launched at the House of Lords.

Keith Moffatt served as Director of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences for five years (1996-2001) in succession to Sir Michael Atiyah OM FRS. These reminiscences concern the first 10 years of the Institute, from1991-2001. An earlier version of this document was deposited with the University of Cambridge on 15 October 2009.
