Infinity

Dick Onians is an English sculptor. He works in wood and stone, though some of his sculptures have been cast in bronze and resin. Many of the forms combine organic with mathematical elements, mostly concerned with endlessness, growth and continuous renewal.

The Institute was kindly gifted a sculpture by artist Dick Onians entitled Infinity in 2012. It shows a single-sided surface, such that if an ant were to walk along the length of the sculpture it would return to its original starting point having traversed both sides of the shape, but would not cross an edge. The sculpture examines the endlessness of time, space, and regeneration.
