Solution methods for Benney's equations

Abstract: 
Benney's equations can be written as a Vlasov equation for a distribution function f(x,p,t). In some special cases, the reductions described by Gibbons and Tsarev, the initial value problem can be solved. The general case is more problematic, though Geogjaev has sketched some important steps towards a solution. We study the relationships between these constructions and with the d-bar techniques used by Konopelchenko and Martinez Alonso.
