Finite gap solutions of the vector nonlinear Schroedinger equation

Abstract: 
Manakov first demonstrated integrability of the vector nonlinear Schroedinger equation (VNSE). Here, I will discuss difficulties which arise when addressing finite gap solutions to this equation. The algebraic curve associated with the VNSE is trigonal, rather than of the hypergeometric type obtained in the scalar problem.
