Exact and approximate methods for the free rigid body

Abstract

We consider both exact and approximate methods for the free rigid body equations. In particular, we are interested in understanding whether and when exact algorithms can be competitive with approximate ones. Both the exact and the approximate methods are extensively tested for several problems, including satellite and molecular dynamics simulations.
