### Photoacoustic Imaging with Focused Illumination

Seminar Room 1, Newton Institute

#### Abstract

In this talk we consider analytical reconstruction formulas for photoacoustic experiments where the illumination is focused to a plane. In standard Photoacoustic experiments, where the whole specimen is uniformly illuminated the total energy required can be way too much, and thus focusing becomes necessary.Such focusing experiments require novel reconstruction techniques for imaging, which will be the core topic of this talk. Moreover, the reconstruction algorithms also depend on the measurement setup - we will discuss standard point detectors, realizable for instance by piezo crystals, and integrating detectors, realizable for instance by Mach-Zehnder interferometers. In addition, we review photoacoustic imaging formulas to but the work in perspective.

This is joint work with P. Elbau and R. Schulze (RICAM, Linz, Austria).
