### Lecture 2: Concentration of measure (tutorial)

Szarek, SJ *(Case Western Reserve University)*

Friday 06 September 2013, 09:00-10:00

Seminar Room 1, Newton Institute

#### Abstract

I will present an overview of the concentration of measure phenomenon, results and techniques, starting with Levy's isoperimetric inequality on the Euclidean sphere and following up with examples in other settings: Gaussian, discrete etc. I will also sketch some applications such as Dvoretzky's theorem on almost spherical sections of convex bodies and indicate some links to quantum information.
