Abstract

We discuss various concepts of space and time coming out of string theory and the related mathematics. Then, to get some insight into the question raised by our title, we make some very speculative comparisons to other imaginable "universes" (formal systems) which might allow for "life," but in which space and time are very different, or do not exist at all.
