industry and the mathematical sciences

Organisers: Colm Connaughton (Warwick Mathematics Institute and Warwick Centre for Complexity Science), Tom Nichols (Warwick Statistics Department and Warwick Manufacturing Group) and Florian Theil (Warwick Mathematics Institute)

in association with the Turing Gateway to Mathematics

The meeting will be organised and led from the University of Warwick by a multi-disciplinary team representing Warwick Mathematics Institute (Connaughton and Theil), Warwick Centre for Complexity Science (Connaughton and Nichols), Warwick Department of Statistics (Nichols) and Warwick Manufacturing Group (Nichols). It will be open to all graduate students and academics from the UK mathematical sciences community with an interest in the topics described on the event homepage.

The meeting will particularly encourage the participation of early career researchers, especially PhD students. Graduate students from the Centre for Complexity Science and MASDOC Centre for Doctoral Training will be strongly encouraged to attend. We expect that students from the Complexity Science Doctoral Training Centres in Bristol and Southampton and from the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics will also find this meeting useful.

On the industrial side, we have sought expressions of interest from the individuals listed below along with their respective companies and domains of expertise:

These individuals all, to varying degrees, have existing links with members of the organising committee and have a proven track-record of being able to interact constructively with academics in the mathematical sciences.

We have also invited Robert Leese from the Smith Institute to participate in the meeting since the Smith Institute has an excellent overview of the current state of play in industrial mathematics in the UK and has extensive experience of promoting links across the academia-industry interface.
