Session Title:
Elliptic cohomology and chromatic phenomena
Abstract:
We explain what is known and what is conjecture concerning rational orbifold models (ie 'good' vertex operator algebras and their automorphism groups) and the passage to the associated topological field theory. We explain how such theories may be used to detect group cohomology, and illustrate with the example of the Monster simple group, where there is a surprising prediction.
