Matroids with nine elements

Wednesday 16th April 2008 - 15:00 to 16:00
INI Seminar Room 1

A complete catalogue of all the matroids with eight elements was generated (by computer) at Waterloo nearly 40 years ago, but only in the last couple of years has this catalogue been extended beyond eight elements. After a brief introduction to the basic terminology of matroids, I will describe the construction of the catalogue of matroids with nine elements, and discuss some of its possible applications and/or extensions.
