Monday 27th January 2014 - 14:00 to 15:00
INI Seminar Room 1
It is widely recognized that long-term changes in the Earth's climate system and ecosystems exhibit abrupt changes, thresholds and nonlinearities in their behaviour. In this talk, the different types of abrupt changes in the climate system and ecosystems and the forcing-response relationship producing them will be reviewed. The usefulness of change-point detection techniques to identify these abrupt changes will be demonstrated through applications. Finally, future development needs will be discussed.
