Variational principles for water waves beyond perturbations

Abstract: 
An approximation method based on a 'relaxed' variational principle is presented. The advantages of this relaxed formulation are illustrated with various examples in shallow and deep waters. A candidate model for tsunamis modelling over significant bathymetry variations is also presented.
