Abstract:
One method for communicating likelihood ratios is to use words to express ranges
of values. I shall look at the development of these recommendations, and make
comparisons with other areas in which similar proposals have been made for
communicating probabilities or risks using words, such as climate change and
drug safety, and how these have been interpreted by audiences.
