UQ methodologies in Schlumberger's technology development for Drilling Automation

Presented by:

Date:
Thursday 5th April 2018 - 11:00 to 12:00
Venue:
INI Seminar Room 1
Abstract:
In this talk, I will explain how uncertainty quantification methodologies are playing a vital role at Schlumberger Cambridge Research for the modernization, increased safety and efficiency in drilling oil and gas wells. There are intrinsic uncertainties while drilling a well which carry risks with significant economic and HSE impact. I will present some solutions based on techniques such as sequential Monte Carlo, Bayesian networks and Gaussian processes which we developed for the prevention and mitigation of some risks as well as enabling automation.
