Challenges in optimal recovery and hyperbolic cross approximation

Workshop theme
Efficient approximation and integration of multivariate functions is a crucial task for the numerical treatment of many multi-parameter real-world problems. Typically, the computation time of algorithms
grows dramatically in the number of variables. This has led to a deep and actively developing area of multivariate approximation known under the name “Hyperbolic Cross Approximation” and "Sparse Grids" which fits very well to function classes with a bounded mixed derivative. Those functions appear naturally in probability and discrepancy theory. They further serve as suitable framework for the treatment of the electronic Schroedinger equation. Recently, driven by applications in engineering, biology, medicine and other areas of science, new challenging problems have appeared. The theory of hyperbolic cross approximation and the related theory of functions with mixed smoothness are under detailed study for more than 50 years. It is understood that both theoretical analysis and construction of practical algorithms are rather difficult problems. This explains why many fundamental problems in this area are still unsolved which has been the main motivation for us to organize this workshop.

Registration Only
- Registration Package: £210
- Student Registration Package: £160
The Registration Package includes admission to all seminars, lunches and refreshments on the days that lectures take place (Monday - Friday), wine reception and formal dinner, but does not include other meals or accommodation.
Formal Dinner Only
- Formal Dinner: £50
Participants on the Accommodation Package or Registration Package, including organisers and speakers, are automatically included in this event. For all remaining participants who would like to attend, such as programme participants, the above charge will apply.
Accommodation
Unfortunately we do not have any accommodation to offer so all successful applicants will need to source their own accommodation. Please see the Hotels Combined website for a list of local hotels and guesthouses.

Evening Meal
Participants are free to make their own arrangements for dinner.
Formal Dinner
