In memory of Vaughan Jones (1952-2020)

The Institute was greatly saddened to learn of the death of Professor Vaughan Jones (co-organiser of the 2017 programme "Operator algebras: subfactors and their applications" on 6 September 2020, and our deepest condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues for their loss. Directorship of the Isaac Newton Institute and NM Rothschild & Sons Professorship of Mathematics

The tenure of David Abrahams as Director of the Isaac Newton Institute and NM Rothschild & Sons Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge comes to an end on 30/9/2021 and the process to find his replacement, to take up appointment on 1 October 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter, has begun.

In memory of Sir Christopher Dobson (1949-2019)

The Institute was greatly saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Christopher Dobson, Master of St John’s College, Cambridge on 8 September 2019.  A brilliant scientist and a kind and compassionate human being, his contribution to Alzheimers research was significant.

Joint INI-ICMS-KTN report published highlighting the mathematical science opportunities in the Industrial Strategy

In February 2019,  a workshop took place to analyse and explore the various aspects of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF). This was organised by INI, the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS),  Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and an organising committee representing the breadth of the mathematical sciences. The event took place at ICMS in Edinburgh, related to one of 26 recommendations made by Professor Philip Bond in his 2018 Review of Knowledge Exchange in the Mathematical Sciences launched at the House of Lords.
