Kirk Fellowship lecture: “Three Character Archetypes in Energy Optimisation” by Claudia Sagastizabal (9 April 2019, 16:00-17:00)

4 April 2019

The first lecture delivered by a Kirk Distinguished Visiting Fellow is due to be given at INI on 9 April 2019 from 16:00-17:00.

Titled “Three Character Archetypes in Energy Optimisation“, Dr Sagastizabal’s talk will follow the works and lives of Isaac NewtonJoseph-Louis Lagrange, and Jean-Jacques Moreau – using their examples to discuss how the frontier between pure and applied maths becomes “somewhat artificial” when dealing with price signals in energy optimisation.

The KDVF scheme, newly launched in 2019 thanks to the generosity of the Turner-Kirk Charitable Trust, provides funding for one senior mathematician per programme chosen from under-represented groups within higher mathematical research. This lecture is part of a series of public-facing talks undertaken as part of the Fellowship.

All are welcome to attend.
