“Sir Michael Atiyah: Forays into Physics” to take place at INI on Friday 25 October 2019

Please see below for details of an event celebrating the works of INI founding Director Sir Michael Atiyah, due to take place at the Institute on 25 October 2019.

“We are pleased to announce a 1-day event: Sir Michael Atiyah: Forays into Physics (Friday 25th October 2019, Isaac Newton Institute, Clarkson Road, Cambridge) to celebrate Sir Michael’s contributions to physics.

Lectures will start at 11.15 and end at about 5.00. Coffee/tea/biscuits will be available from 10.45, and a sandwich buffet lunch will be provided.

Confirmed speakers are:

  • Sir Roger Penrose: “Michael Atiyah’s roles in the drive towards a twistor theory of physics”
  • Nigel Hitchin: “Gravitational instantons and cubic surfaces”
  • Paul Sutcliffe: “Solitons and points”
  • Matilde Marcolli: “Anyons, networks, and codes in geometric models of matter”
  • Nick Manton: “Skyrmions”

This meeting is on the Friday before the memorial service for Sir Michael at Trinity College Chapel, on Saturday 26th October at 2.30pm. We have been informed by Trinity College that participants at our meeting will be very welcome to attend the memorial service. Unfortunately, we cannot help to arrange overnight accommodation.
